How do I give Sippican Digital access to my domain at Hover?

Accepted Answer

Your domain name (for example yourbusiness.com) is registered at Hover. When we launch your new website, two small settings on that domain need to point at the new site. Everything else at Hover, including your email settings, stays exactly as it is.

Hover does not offer guest or team access, so there is no way to invite us into your account the way Google or Squarespace allow. Hover also says it will never ask for your password, and we would rather not hold it either. Here are the ways this works, easiest first.

Option 1: A five-minute screen share at launch (recommended)
When the site is ready, we schedule a short call. You sign in to Hover on your screen, share it, and we talk you through the two changes while you click. You never hand over a password, you see exactly what changes, and we confirm the site is live together before hanging up. This is what most of our clients do.

Option 2: You make the changes yourself
We email you the exact values to enter. It takes about five minutes.

If your website is built on Wix, you can invite Sippican Digital into your site as a collaborator. We get our own login to work on the site, you never share your password, and you can remove us with one click whenever you like.

Sign in at wix.com and open your site's dashboard.
Click Settings in the left menu.
Click Roles & Permissions.
Click Invite People (or Invite Collaborators).

Choose the Website Manager role. It lets us edit pages, design, blog and SEO settings, but not your billing or payment details.
Click Send Invite.

That is it. We accept the invite on our side and let you know when we are in.

Which role should I pick?

How do I give Sippican Digital access to my Shopify store?

If your store runs on Shopify, you can give Sippican Digital our own login so we can work on your theme, pages and products. You never share your password, you choose exactly what we can see, and you can remove us at any time.

There are two ways to do it. The first is the quickest for most stores.

Option 1: Add us as a staff member (recommended)

Sign in to your Shopify admin.
Click Settings in the bottom left.
Click Users (on some stores this is called Users and permissions).
Click Add users (or Add staff).
Enter the name Sippican Digital and the email sippicandigital@gmail.com.
Choose the permissions below, then click Send invite.

Permissions we usually need:

Online Store: Themes, Pages, Navigation, Blog posts, Preferences
Products (if we are editing products or collections)
Apps (if we are installing or configuring an app for you)

You can leave Orders, Customers, Finances and Payments unchecked unless we have asked about them for a specific job. Your customer and payment data stays private.

Note: each Shopify plan includes a set number of staff accounts (Basic includes two). If you are out of staff seats, use Option 2 instead, which does not use one.

How do I edit my website, review it on staging and publish my changes?

If your website was built with our self-edit editor, you can change your own text, add or remove items like FAQs and services, check everything on a private staging link, and then make it live. Nothing you change reaches your live website until you publish it, so you can experiment freely.

Before you start

Sign in at sippicandigital.com/login with the email we set up for you. If you have not set a password yet, click Forgot your password? on that page.
A laptop or desktop works best for editing. Your website itself looks great on phones; the editor is just easier on a bigger screen.

Step 1: Open your website
Click My Websites in the top menu, then Edit Content on your website.

Step 2: Open the on-page editor
Click Edit on Page. Your website opens exactly as visitors see it, with an Editing Draft bar across the top.

Step 3: Click any text and type
Hover over your site and editable text gets a dashed outline. Click it and type, just like a document. Longer paragraphs open in a small text window when you click them. When you are done, click Save in the top bar (it shows how many changes you have made).

How do I turn on DKIM email authentication in Google Workspace?

DKIM is a digital signature Google adds to every email you send from your own domain. It proves the message really came from you, which keeps your email out of spam folders and stops other people from sending convincing fakes in your name. If you use Google Workspace (Gmail with your own domain, like you@yourbusiness.com), turning it on takes about ten minutes and you only do it once.

Before you start

You need to sign in as a Google Workspace super admin (usually the person who set up the account).
Someone needs to add one DNS record to your domain. If Sippican Digital manages your domain's DNS, we do this part for you: just send us the record in step 5.
